Time Tinkers was developed as a cross-platform playing card game for iOS, Android, and Flash. I designed and developed the game using Adobe AIR.
This was my first mobile game, so I chose to do a design that did not rely greatly on system performance. For that reason, a playing card game seemed like a good choice.
Each number, 1-13, of the 52 card deck is associated with a position of the board's clock. Players must try to earn the most coins by controlling the clock-hand and taking the coin stacks. The rules are presented to the player mid-game as slide tutorials when relevant information is required for the player to make a particular decision, such as which direction to turn the clock-hand. Additionally the complete text rules are available for the players who are confused or don't understand.
Up to four human players can play together on a single device. Turn stops are used keep other players from viewing an individual's cards.
Earned coins can be spent at the shop to unlock new avatars, decks, or special features. In the mobile versions, players can purchase additional coins via the App Store or Google Play.
Using Adobe AIR to build the game resulted in a large number of obstacles to developing and releasing the game properly. However, all members of the team worked hard, and we were able to release the game successfully.
