Mutant Alien Assault was developed as a Flash game to promote the Play-Games-Pro game portal. As the director, I oversaw the game's development and provided feedback.
The game has the player control a small robot who's spaceship has been attacked and invaded by mutated aliens. To escape, the player must deliver fuel cells to the ship's reactor core, in order to activate hyper-jump and flee the alien fleet. However, enemies have already entered and roam about the ship. If they're left alone for too long, they mutate due to the radiation and become extremely dangerous. The player can use an interesting assortment of randomly dispensed weapons to destroy the aliens and clear a path.
So, the player is required to constantly switch between two objects: deliver the fuel cells, and destroy the aliens before they become too dangerous. There is also a high score mode where the player delivers as many fuel cells as they can, and a special mutant mode where the enemies are stronger, but the player's weapons get enhancements as well, turning it into an intensely fun challenge.
In directing the game, there was a constant feedback loop between the designer/programmer and me from the game's initial proposal to its release. Together, we were able to identify the strongest ideas and features, and create things that neither of us could have thought of on our own.
You can play the game on this site below, or at one of the major portals, including the sponsor portal, Play-Games-Pro.
